Mark Rooney

Mark Rooney (born 13 December 1983, Dublin) is a former Irish footballer who plied his trade as a striker. He is the elder brother of Adam Rooney, who is currently with Scottish Premiership team Aberdeen.

Rooney began his senior career at Dublin City before joining UCD in 2003 where he broke into the Student's first team.〔(Profile ), ucd.ie/soccer; accessed 22 April 2015.〕 Rooney only stayed at Belfield Park for one season before joining his former manager at UCD, Paul Doolin at Drogheda United in 2004.〔(Quinless pens new Drogheda deal ), rte.ie; accessed 22 April 2015.〕 Despite a difficult season for him personally, only scoring one league goal in 22 appearances, Rooney was part of the Drogheda United squad that won the 2005 FAI Cup after beating Cork City in the final on 4 December 2005 at Lansdowne Road.〔(Drogs capture first FAI crown ), irishfootballonline.com; accessed 22 April 2015.〕 He was released by United during the close season and he joined Dublin City for the 2006 season.
